Community Development Projects Initiative

The Project
This initiative works closely with the local communities to provide funding for capital projects required to enhance facilities in their areas. The designated projects are proposed by the communities, and the Docklands Authority part funds their implementation under the Community Development Projects Initiative.

How it Works
The Docklands Authority invites the local communities to submit proposals for capital projects. It then provides 60% of the funding for approved projects, with the balance matched by community funding initiatives.

Examples of the types of projects recently funded under the Community Development Project Initiative scheme include:

• The building of a new community centre in Ringsend.
• The establishment of an internet café in St Andrew’s Resource Centre.
• The provision of crèche facilities in the North Wall Women’s Centre and St Andrew’s Resource Centre.
• Floodlighting and drainage work at Clan na Gael Fontenoy GAA pitches in Ringsend.
• The refurbishment of the oldest church pipe organ in Dublin at St Agatha’s Church.
• The provision of a community room in Pearse Street flats.

The Right Result
Over the last seven years close to 200 community infrastructure projects in Dublin’s Docklands have been funded under this scheme at a cost of €5.25 million.
