Employment in the Docklands
Most of the buildings that developed in the Docklands were linked to the port. Nineteenth-century Dublin was not a city of factories.

The Custom House
One of Dublin’s finest 18th-Century buildings, it was almost destroyed during the War for Independence in 1921.

The Docklands
The Dublin Docklands Development Area comprises of 520 hectares or 1300 acres of land on the north and south banks of the river Liffey.

The Port
The original Port of Dublin was situated upriver, near the modern Civic Offices at Wood Quay and close to Christchurch Cathedral.

Urban Dereliction
Urban dereliction is not new. When the plans to build the Custom House were first announced, families living in elegant Georgian homes in nearby streets
