Creating an attractive and high-quality public domain is at the heart of making successful urban places. Dublin Docklands contains public spaces including parks, squares and streets of very high quality which have laid the foundation for a future network.
Consultation on the Draft Public Realm Masterplan for the North Lotts and Grand Canal Dock Planning Scheme 2014 (A)
Comments and observations were invited on the draft Public Realm Masterplan for the North Lotts and Grand Canal Dock SDZ Planning Scheme 2014.
The publication of the Masterplan for the Docklands SDZ is designed to accompany and support the North Lotts and Grand Canal Dock Planning Scheme which was published in 2014.
The Masterplan will guide the design of urban spaces and streets to be socially inclusive and universally accessible. It will encourage pedestrian movement and sustainable transport uses, and improve the connectivity within the SDZ area itself and connections to the wider city. It will develop greening strategies to promote biodiversity, draw on the area’s maritime heritage to promote the arts and cultural uses, and develop strategies to animate the areas’ waterbodies by encouraging a wide mix of recreational activities and events to attract residents, workers and visitors to the area.
The Public Realm Masterplan will provide guidance to design the urban environment for a world class maritime quarter with a distinctive Dublin character. This is to be achieved by guiding the design and layout of both public and private streets, laneways, courtyards, new public parks and public spaces within the SDZ area, together with recommended palettes of high quality materials and street furniture.
The Draft Masterplan and supporting reference documents are attached below together with a video outline of the main objectives of the plan.
